Dear Yellowstone Families,
On behalf of all of the teachers and staff at Yellowstone Academy, we are excited to welcome you to the 2017-18 school year! This year we will be celebrating our 15th year of operation. Over the summer, we have completed nearly a million dollars of repairs and renovations to our campus. We have also been busy enhancing our programs and offerings to ensure this is the best year yet for you and your family. As we prepare for the first day of school, here are some important updates:
Back to School Orientation: August 14 at 5:30pm
Like last year, we will gather in the cafeteria for our Back to School Orientation on Monday, August 14. This session will give you an opportunity to hear from school leadership, confirm your child’s daily transportation plans, complete important paperwork, and meet your child’s teacher. It is expected that all Yellowstone families are in attendance for this fun and exciting kick-off to the school year!
First Day of School: August 16
Our first day of school will be Wednesday, August 16. Our doors will open at 7:15 for breakfast, with the late bell ringing at 7:45. On the first day, parents will be able to walk their students to class and help with the transition; all parents/visitors will be asked to leave by 8:15 so we can begin our instructional day. Dismissal will begin at 3:45. We will walk through dismissal procedures at the Back to School orientation.
We will be discussing our uniform policy in more detail at our Back to School Orientation. The student uniform consists of a polo shirt (that should be tucked in), blue or khaki pants with a belt, and closed-toe shoes. The colors for the polo shirts are as follows:
- Pre-Kindergarten – 4th grade
Yellow (gold/sunray) or Navy-Blue
- 5th grade – 8th grade
Yellow (gold/sunray), Navy-Blue, White, Light-Blue
These polo shirts and pants can be purchased at Fiesta, Academy, and virtually all department stores in the area. If you need assistance with your uniform purchase, please contact Laura Kerr at 713-741-8000, or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Welcome our new Dean of Students
We are pleased to welcome our new Dean of Students, Mr. Derrick Bass. Mr. Bass has nearly a decade of educational experience in elementary and secondary schools in Chicago and in Houston. In his previous roles, he has served as a teacher, dean, and assistant principal. He has been working hard this summer to prepare for the upcoming school year and he can’t wait to meet you and your family. You will have an opportunity to meet Mr. Bass at the Back to School Orientation.
Check out our new Website at www.yellowstoneacademy.org
Along with the building renovations, our website has received a complete facelift. We have improved our parent portal so you can find all of the documents and updates you need to stay informed throughout the year. In addition, the website has been formatted to make it much easier to read and access from your cell phone. Please be sure to review the website prior to the first day of school for updated policies, procedures, and other important information.
Looking Ahead: Yellowstone College Prep is coming soon!
As we shared at our Open House last September, we have embarked on an exciting strategic growth plan to provide a way to expand the Yellowstone experience through high school. The plan calls for us to continue operating our private, faith-based school for students in pre-K through 4th grade, and launch Yellowstone College Prep, which will be a 5th-12th grade open-enrollment charter school which will be located in the same building. Our families were thrilled to hear this news last September and many of you have been asking me about our progress since then. I am pleased to report that in late June, the Texas Education Agency approved our plan to begin this new school model starting in August 2018. While this is a year away, you will be hearing more about our plans and the exciting ways this will impact our community at the Back to School Orientation, and through several special meetings we will host this fall. Stay tuned for more developments in the weeks ahead!
As you can see, this promises to be an incredible year for our students and families. From our renovated building and website to our new staff and the exciting plans on the horizon, we are committed to offering our Yellowstone families a premier educational experience. We hope you enjoy these remaining weeks of summer vacation. We look forward to seeing you on August 14th at 5:30 as we celebrate our 15th anniversary and officially kick-off the 2017-18 school year!
